I am a writer, teacher, activist and live in Durham, NC with my partner Vicki Smith and three cats — Chevy, Cricket, and Shane — so Vicki and I are outnumbered. We share four children and seven grandchildren. I am revising a novel and marketing another, am involved with Durham’s Harm Free Zone, support Eternal Summer of the Black Feminist Mind. With five other women, I co-edited a collection of memories of women who worked with the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). The book, HANDS ON THE FREEDOM PLOW was published in September, 2010 by University of Illinois Press.
